In 2016, the land City People’s Garden Store sits on was sold to Michigan-based developers, but plans for that multi-use edifice stalled, and we were able to stay through March 2023. We closed for retail shopping on March 19th.
In the meantime, Alison is scouting new sites, either to lease or purchase. The outdoor portion needed for the plant nursery is a challenge to find. Obvious perfect fits have been researched (Seward Park near Third Place Books, QFC on 15th, and others), but are, so far, unattainable.

City People’s was started in 1975 on Capitol Hill and expanded over the years to four locations. The Garden Store opened in 1988. Today, the two remaining locations, the Garden Store and the Mercantile are owned and operated separately.

The site will ideally be within 5 miles of our current location with a large outdoor space and indoor retail space. We must also be at least 3 miles from City People’s Mercantile in Laurelhurst.
